The Gilliam Foundation was founded in 1998 and was the brainchild of James H. Gilliam, Jr., who along with being an attorney, was a successful businessman, civic, social, community leader and philanthropist. Jim Jr. served as the Chairman of the Foundation until his untimely passing in 2003. From its inception through 2013, The Gilliam Foundation has made grants over $2.8 million.
It's charitable giving is designed to respect the diversity of communities, with particular attention given to the African American Community. The specific interest of The Gilliam Foundation is in supporting projects that are proactive, preventative and future-thinking in their efforts to create positive outcomes.
